Learning to Ride A Unicycle
One of the most popular questions is “How do you learn to ride a unicycle?”
There are lots of tricks and tips but it comes down to 2 things:
- Skill
- Stick-with-it-ness
You must continue to practice, ideally an hour a day for 1-2 weeks. After you learn to ride and turn then you can freemount, then other tricks and soon you’ll be hopping up and riding down stairs in the park.
Things that help:
- friends
- fences
- shopping carts
- lawn chairs
Getting Started
- weight down in the seat
- sit up straight.
- try to relax
Find the “power position”, which is having your feet parallel to the ground. This allows you to apply forward or backward pressure on the pedals.
Practice rocking back and forth a bit to get a feel for how the unicycle reacts. Unstable eh?
At first practice going from power position to power position, then start chaining them together to go farther and farther.
